What does being a B Corp mean?
B Corps are internationally recognised as businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability.
Achieving certification is a rigorous process, requiring full disclosure and documentation across five areas – governance, workers, customers, community and the environment. As part of the B Corp process, we meticulously evaluated every single one of our business practices over a two year period.
To qualify, a business is required to reach a score of 80 – we are delighted that we achieved a score of 107 meaning that Ancient + Brave is one of the highest scoring wellness brands in Europe.
Is your packaging recyclable?
All of our packaging is recycable apart from our individual small sachets. All instructions on how to recycle your packaging are printed on the products.
Do you use plastic?
We do as much as we can to reduce our plastic usage.
Is your True Collagen sustainably sourced?
Many collagen supplements on the market use South American collagen which is contributing to deforestation.
Our True Collagen is derived from cattle in the EU and is manufactured in the EU. The collagen peptides are produced from raw materials that are exclusively sourced and originate from healthy animals. The cows have been raised naturally and follow a predominantly grass-fed diet.
Collagen peptides are a natural by-product of the food industry, contributing to the whole use of the bovine and recapturing what would otherwise be ‘waste’ as a resource to manufacture new products. This therefore gives sustainable added value to farmers within the EU and contributes to a circular economy.
Animal welfare remains a high priority and we work with leading partners who are committed to supporting all reasonable measures aimed at improving animal welfare. Our manufacturing partners are members of the Gelatine Manufacturers of Europe (GME) and together we support strict enforcement of the comprehensive EU animal welfare legislation. The stricter laws regarding the use of antibiotics and hormones, deforestation and animal welfare legislations in the EU are driving points behind our EU focused supply chain.
Is your Wild Collagen sustainably sourced?
Our Wild collagen is sourced from the skin of wild caught North Atlantic white fish and is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). MSC is a robust certification programme carried out by independent certification bodies to monitor wild-capture fisheries and certified businesses’ supply chains to ensure that international best practice for sustainable fishing is met and that resources and livelihoods can be sustained for future generations.
This, again, is a natural by-product of the food industry that would otherwise be discarded as waste. Wild-caught fish typically boast superior nutrient profiles due to their natural diets and active lifestyles. Farmed fish, often fed grains or pellets and confined to small enclosures, may be more susceptible to lice and bacteria. Consequently, they are frequently treated with antibiotics and, occasionally, hormones, which can affect consumers' health when consumed.
What does Climate Neutral mean?
Being 'climate neutral' means reducing greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible to help the planet.
What is 1% for the Planet?
As members of 1% for the Planet, we have pledged one percent of everything we sell to environmental causes and social initiatives working to protect the planet.
What is ESG?
ESG means using Environmental, Social and Governance factors to assess the sustainability of companies and countries.

What does MCT stand for? How do I use your True MCT?
MCT stands for Medium-chain triglycerides.

This product is perfect for those times in your day when you could do with a little more fuel in the tank. True MCT oil is incredibly versatile as it’s liquid at room temperature and is clean, light and flavourless. It really can be used daily in a variety of ways:
- Add to your coffee, tea, hot chocolate or matcha for an extra energy boost. Best when blended.

What types of collagen do you offer?
We offer a collagen source for every dietary preference and ‘type’- True Collagen, Wild Collagen, Noble Collagen and Radiant Collagyn.
Our True Collagen provides easily digestible, highly absorbable and clinically researched Type-I hydrolysed bovine collagen peptides.
Our Wild Collagen also provides easily digestible, highly bioavailable Type-I hydrolysed marine collagen peptides.
Noble Collagen features Type II collagen, a targeted ingredient found specifically in cartilage. It differs structurally from Type I as it is not hydrolysed but undenatured, exerting a distinct mechanism of action by positively signalling the immune system to regenerate joint cartilage.
Our innovative vegan Radiant Collagyn provides a great alternative for plant-based diets. This product is formulated with collagen specific amino acids and botanical extracts as well as added vegan nutrients such as Zinc, Vitamin C, Biotin and Vitamin D3 to deepen the effects. Mechanistically, animal based products work by both stimulating collagen production and providing the right amino acids. Vegan collagyn works by only providing the building blocks and co-factors the body needs for collagen production.
How does collagen work?
Collagen is the most plentiful protein in the body, and is a vital component of our connective tissue. It also supports and strengthens other key structural areas in the body, as well as insulating and protecting our organs. It is found everywhere in the human body and most abundantly in our skin, ligaments, bones, tendons, joints, cartilage, gut lining, blood vessels and even our hair, nails and teeth. Much like structural scaffolding, collagen keeps everything held together making us strong, healthy and vital.
Read more about how collagen is absorbed and utilised in the body here.
What is the difference between True / Wild and Noble Collagen?
Type I collagen is the most abundant type in our bodies, comprising 90% of your body’s total collagen. True and Wild Collagen contain 100% pure bioactive type I collagen peptides from bovine and marine sources respectively. These short type I collagen peptide chains act as signalling molecules to stimulate fibroblast activity, which is crucial for the synthesis of new collagen throughout the body.
Type II collagen works differently from Type I collagen. It is not in the form of peptides but is undenatured, also known as native collagen. This means it retains its original triple-helix structure and has a different mechanism of action from type I collagen peptides. It interacts with the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) to promote a regulating immune response to worn-out collagen fragments in the cartilage of joints, reducing inflammation and pain associated with ageing joints.
The type II collagen in Noble Collagen is enhanced with carefully selected synergistic ingredients to maximise benefits for joint health. We’ve included Vitamin C and manganese, both essential for collagen synthesis and critical to maintaining the structural integrity of joints, encompassing bones, tendons, and ligaments. Additionally, Noble Collagen is enriched with Boswellia serrata, a powerful botanical celebrated for its anti-inflammatory properties and traditional use in alleviating rheumatic pain.
Think of Type I collagen as your whole body health ally and Type II collagen is the targeted guardian of your joints, maintaining mobility and comfort to help you move. Supplementing with Type I collagen supports skin, hair, nails, bones, tendons and gut health. On the other hand, Type II collagen provides targeted joint health support Together, they provide comprehensive benefits for whole-body health.
Can I take Noble Collagen alongside True or Wild Collagen?
Yes, you can take Noble Collagen with True or Wild Collagen, and we recommend combining them. Type I collagen benefits your skin, hair, nails, bones, tendons and gut, while Type II focuses on cartilage and joint health. Using both provides comprehensive benefits to keep you feeling great and moving well.
What benefits can I expect to see?
Our collagen products help contribute to the elasticity of skin and also strengthen hair, nails, joints, bones and assist with gut health.
How soon can I expect to see and feel the benefits of taking collagen?
When introducing collagen into your daily ritual, it is important to remember that patience and consistency is key. While some individuals may experience initial benefits sooner, the time it takes for collagen to exert its effects can vary. Results are influenced by factors such as age, overall health, lifestyle choices, and the quality of the collagen product used. It's crucial to adopt a long-term perspective when considering collagen supplementation.
Taking collagen regularly allows your body to gradually absorb and utilise the peptides effectively
When it comes to collagen, dosage matters. Following the recommended dosage ensures that you're providing your body with an adequate amount of collagen to support its natural processes. Remember, lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management also play a role. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can optimise and enhance the results of collagen supplementation.
Whilst there is no set time frame for when to start experiencing benefits, some individuals report noticing changes within a few weeks of consistent use. These changes that occur early on usually include improved skin, reduced joint discomfort and healthier hair and nails. However, it's essential to remember that these are subjective experiences and can vary from person to person - we're all wonderfully unique like that.
How potent are True and Wild collagen?
True Collagen provides 5,000mg of collagen per 5g serving
Wild Collagen provides 5,000mg of collagen per 5g serving
How much collagen can I consume in a day?
True / Wild collagen - We recommend consuming 5-10g per day.
Noble Collagen - Take 1 capsule per day, preferably with a meal. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
For our other products, information on recommended dosage and how best to consume is available on the product page.
How do I take my True or Wild collagen?
Our True and Wild Collagen dissolves easily into any hot or cold drink and is perfect to sprinkle on food too.
Why is True / Wild in powder form and not liquid or capsule?
For our Type I collagen peptides. Ancient + Brave have opted for powdered collagen for several reasons:
- Dosage - The optimal dose is 5-15g of type I collagen per day for optimal benefits. You simply cannot fit enough type I collagen into a single capsule and many people don't like taking several at once.
- Sustainability - We also see the huge impact of the waste from daily liquid sachets. Powdered collagen from a glass jar or one of recyclable pouches allows you to get a more meaningful dose of Type I collagen, fewer additives, and save the environment from more plastic or packaging waste.
- Purity - We do not add any artificial flavours, sugars or fillers which can greatly reduce the benefit of taking the powder in the first place. On top of this, some of these substances can be harmful for our gut health.
Why is Noble collagen in a capsule?
Derived from sustainably sourced chicken sternum, Type II collagen works at much lower doses than Type I. It delivers clinically proven benefits with just 40 mg—a fraction of the 5-10 grams typically required for Type I collagen found in True and Wild Collagen. This low-dose efficiency is a key reason for our choice to use encapsulation. Encapsulation not only conceals the natural, less palatable taste of Type II collagen but also ensures optimal delivery to the absorption sites in the gut. Moreover, this method allows us to combine Type II collagen with complementary nutrients—vitamin C, manganese, and Boswellia serrata—further boosting its effectiveness and enhancing joint health benefits.
Does taking collagen help with menopausal symptoms?
Collagen production declines from around the age of 25, and by the age of 50 we lose more than our bodies can produce. In studies, up to 30% of dermal collagen was lost in the first 5 years after the menopause. Levels subsequently reduce at a rate of 2% per menopausal year. The degradation of collagen can be associated with many signs of ageing from poor joint repair to loss of elasticity and plumpness of our skin. Collagen production is also closely linked to oestrogen levels, and therefore as oestrogen drops, so does our collagen formation.
Taking targeted supplements to help rebuild the natural collagen in our body can help to relieve many of the symptoms commonly experienced in menopause such as hair loss, dry skin and joint pain.
Can I take collagen whilst pregnant/ breastfeeding?
Whilst there are currently no contraindications of collagen with pregnancy, you should always consult with your doctor or midwife regarding any new additions to your diet or supplements you take during your pregnancy and breastfeeding journey. Only they, knowing your personal health history, will be able to give you the green light on making any changes in your nutrition during this time.
Can I take more than one collagen product?
Yes, our products have been created to be taken alongside each other. There are currently no current recommendations for a maximum dosage of collagen. However, some of our products contain Ashwagandha. We do not recommend more than 1000mg of Ashwagandha per day.
Coffee + Collagen, Cacao + Collagen and Cacao + Reishi provide 200mg of Ashwagandha per serving.
Does collagen help with joint pain?
Collagen constitutes approximately two-thirds of the mass of cartilage found in numerous joints. Serving as a cushion for shock absorption within joints, cartilage damage often leads to joint pain. Collagen supplementation supports movement, mobility, and recovery through multiple mechanisms. It possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and provides the body with essential amino acids needed for the synthesis of new collagen.
Supplementing with type I collagen peptides (in the form of True or Wild Collagen) can be an efficacious and supportive way of ensuring collagen production throughout the body stays optimal.
Supplementing with type II collagen (in the form of Noble Collagen) provides a more targeted approach to joint health, helping in the repair and regeneration of cartilage, and slowing the degenerative process that leads to joint pain and stiffness.
Taking both Type I (True / Wild) and Type II collagen (Noble) is the optimal approach for joint health.
Is collagen good for my skin, hair and nails?
Yes. This is often the first improvement our customers report.
In addition to being visible aspects of our appearance, our skin, hair, and nails serve as the body's natural protective barriers. Therefore, they require strength, which is where collagen plays a crucial role.
SKIN - Collagen and elastin work together at the deepest layer of the skin to give it shape and firmness. It provides structure and resilience.. The body is constantly renewing its collagen, yet the cells that produce collagen become less active as we age. A decline in collagen can lead to a downturn in skin health. Therefore, supplementing with collagen can lead to improved plumpness, elasticity and hydration in the skin.
HAIR - Collagen plays a key role in maintaining the function of hair follicles. Collagen acts as a powerful antioxidant which can help to fight back against damage to hair. The amino acids present in collagen are essential for the production of keratin, the most important protein for hair.
NAILS - The amino acid, arginine, found in collagen, helps provide structure and build strength. This means that your nail beds will grow new, healthy nail material to address the issues of brittleness you may be experiencing. Healthier nails is commonly the first thing people notice when they start supplementing with collagen.
What is the best time of day to take collagen?
Our True Collagen has been designed to be as versatile as possible, so you can fit it easily into your daily ritual. Collagen supplementation works best when it is taken consistently. Simply add it to a drink of your choice, hot or cold or mix it into food such as yoghurt, porridge, smoothies or soups.
For Noble Collagen, the recommended dose is 1 capsule per day, preferably with a meal. You can take this supplement day or night, however for optimal results we recommend taking it at the same time every day.
Can I take Collagen if I am undergoing medical supervision?
A huge benefit of collagen peptide supplements is its great safety profile. We have used collagen for thousands of years in our diets and the supplement version has been regarded as safe by the European Food Safety Authority and has no known drug−nutrient interactions so far - however we will always aim to update our audience with current research should this change.
Finally, for some people with specific conditions there may be a few side effects to be aware of. Those prone to kidney stones or with a high level of calcium oxalate in their urine should be careful with taking collagen. Those with a histamine intolerance should also observe their collagen intake closely too.
If you are undergoing any form of medical investigation, receiving any treatment or taking medications to please speak with your medical practitioner for guidance and directions

Is your collagen organic?
Whilst Ancient + Brave is certified by the Soil Association and all of our blends that can be organic are, collagen as a product cannot be certified as organic no matter where it comes from. Therefore, the only way we can ensure our True Collagen is the purest is to derive it in the way that we do. This is from our our sustainably sourced, grass-fed bovine from the EU from which the collagen is derived primarily from the hides as a byproduct. The True Collagen peptides are produced from raw materials that are exclusively sourced and originate from healthy animals, the cows have been raised naturally without hormones, antibiotics, chemicals, or GMOs.
