Wild vs True Collagen
Taking a deeper dive:
Benefits:
True (bovine) and Wild (marine) Collagen are very similar in molecular structure with a few subtle differences in the amino acid profile.
Both are high in specific amino acids and peptide chains which support your skin and connective tissues.
Both have been clinically studied across multiple areas for whole-body health including skin, joints, bones, hair, nails, and more - each showing positive results.
Bovine has more studies to date. Not yet studied is a direct comparison which looks at the beneficial effects of bovine vs marine collagen so for now it’s down to your dietary choice.
Sourcing:
True Collagen is from bovine hide, considered the most pure part of the animal.
Wild Collagen is obtained from the skins of wild-caught ocean whitefish.
Both are meticulously sourced, natural, GMO-free, and free of additives, preservatives and rigorously tested for heavy metals and toxins.
Sustainability:
Utilising bovine hide and fish skin makes this an environmentally sustainable ingredient - by-products from processing beef and fish that would otherwise become waste.
Sourcing EU bovine collagen ensures a reduction in carbon footprint, less air miles and tight regulations on the use of antibiotics, hormones and animal welfare.
Stricter deforestation legislations in the EU compared to South America collagen sourcing.
Marine sources create even less greenhouse gas emissions.
Wild Collagen is Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified; a robust programme carried out by independent bodies to monitor wild-capture fisheries.
Collagen Type:
The hides in True Collagen contain mainly Type I Collagen, but also naturally contain small amounts of Type III Collagen. As we can’t quantify the amounts, we classify our product as Type I, but it’s highly likely you are gaining benefits from both.
Wild Collagen is extracted from fish skin that also mainly contains Type I Collagen, therefore we classify it as Type I.
Type I Collagen makes up 90 per cent of the collagen in the body and is the most clinically tested, so certainly the one we should focus on the most.
There are 28 different types of collagen in the human body. Rather than looking at different types for different purposes, more important is how well it is absorbed and the quality.
Bioavailability:
We have ensured that in terms of molecular weight, both our True and Wild Collagen are approximately 5000 daltons, the optimal weight for absorption according to studies.
Some believe the molecular structure of marine collagen makes it easier to digest, which may be an important factor if you have any digestive issues.
Radiant Collagyn
Taking a deeper dive:
Ingredients:
Compared to the simple one-ingredient True and Wild Collagens, our plant-based range contain the main amino acids found in collagen from vegan and fermented sources.
To our blend we have added beautiful botanicals, which provide the body with important antioxidants and a rich berry flavour.
Daily vegan nutrients such as zinc, choline, biotin and vitamin D3 have been included to deepen the effects and support your daily wellbeing.
How it works:
Mechanistically animal based products work by both stimulating collagen production and providing the right amino acids.
Vegan collagyn works by only providing the building blocks and co-factors the body needs for collagen production.
Sustainability:
The key attribute of a vegan version is no doubt the environmental impact as well as an animal welfare advantage.
Noble Collagen
Taking a deeper dive:
Benefits:
Undenatured Type II Collagen is clinically proven to support the integrity and flexibility of joint cartilage. It is effective in promoting joint comfort, mobility, and flexibility at a low 40mg dose. Undenatured Type II Collagen has a unique mechanism of action, different to that of Type I Collagen found in True and Wild, in that it signals the immune system to actually build new joint cartilage.
We have formulated our Type II Collagen with Manganese, an essential mineral known to help strengthen joints and bones and support cartilage production and Vitamin C which supports bones, ligaments and cartilage. Boswellia Serrata also features in this product for its anti-inflammatory properties.
The gold standard for joint support would be to use True or Wild Collagen with the addition of Noble Collagen.
Sourcing:
Our Type II Collagen is sustainably sourced from chicken sternum cartilage, a by-product of the meat industry. This source is specifically chosen because it naturally contains a high concentration of Type II Collagen, which is beneficial for joint health.
Collagen Type:
Type II Collagen is the main component of cartilage in the body.
Type II Collagen as a supplement has a different structure to the Type I Collagen peptides found in True and Wild. It is not ‘hydrolysed’ like True and Wild but rather ‘undenatured’ which means it has not been broken down and therefore has a different mechanism of action.
Type II Collagen is best known for targeted joint support, however works optimally when paired with Type I Collagen peptides.
Bioavailability:
Noble Collagen comes in capsule form for optimal delivery and bioavailability. While Type I Collagen peptides are absorbed through the gut wall, Type II Collagen must remain intact in order to exert its benefits.
Undenatured Type II Collagen only requires a small dose of 40mg a day. Our specific Type II Collagen shows benefits in clinical trials after 3 weeks.
