Whereas cocoa is made using a fermentation process drying, roasting and then milling cacao beans into a fine powder - raw cacao is made from unprocessed and unroasted cacao powder.
This gives raw cacao a subtle chocolate flavour and an improved nutrition profile since many of the natural phytonutrients, enzymes and vitamins found naturally in the cacao bean may be lost during the roasting process.
Collagen provides strength and integrity to the structural protein matrix found in skin, bones, ligaments, tendons and cartilage.
Collagen loss is a natural part of ageing which occurs from our 30’s and increase as we grow older. Our hydrolysed collagen peptides are a specific size (under 5000DA’s) for maximum absorption and efficient integration into targeted cells.

Carob is a tropical, evergreen flowering shrub with pods that look like dark brown pea pods. These contain a naturally sweet edible pulp that tastes like chocolate!
The ancient Greeks were the first to cultivate carob trees and they are now grown all over the world from India to Australia.
Carob contains an impressive collection of nutrients including fibre, calcium (twice as much compared to cocoa), iron, potassium, manganese, magnesium, gallic acid and pectin.
This plant, also known as sleep berry or Indian ginseng, originates from North Africa and India and has been valued for over 3,000 years as one of the most important medicinal plants in Ayurveda.
The name Ashwagandha comes from Sanskrit and means “smell of the horse” – a reference to the vitality and strength traditionally attributed to it.
In Western cultures, Ashwagandha is primarily described as an adaptogen, meaning a plant that has been studied in relation to inner balance and stress resilience. Scientific interest focuses in particular on the plant’s natural compounds known as withanolides.
Ashwagandha has a sweet, nutty, slightly malty flavour with a genuine feel-good character. For us, it is an absolute favourite ingredient – which is why you’ll also find it in many of our Brave Blends.
Baobab
Originating in Africa, the baobab tree produces a hard fruit with a shell like coconut which is full of nutritious pulp. Baobab is an exceptional unique fruit with the ability to naturally dehydrate while still on the branch.
Requiring no heat or pasteurisation its properties remain intact meaning baobab powder is unusually nutrient dense, bursting with vitamin C (three times that of an orange) and nearly 50% fibre.
Protected from modern day pollution by snow and ice, Himalayan pink salt has been preserved in an untouched, pristine environment and is considered the purest salt on the earth.

What are the benefits of adding True MCT oil to my cacao + collagen’?
By blending True MCT into either of our blends you add another layer of fuel to your day. You gain all the nourishing benefits of the hydrolysed collagen with the additional boost of fuel from the MCT. If you are consuming your Cacao + Collagen as part of your evening rest ritual, we wouldn't recommend adding True MCT oil to prevent any sleep disturbances from the additional energy intake.
IS THE CACAO + COLLAGEN SAFE FOR KIDS?
Cacao naturally contains caffeine, so this is the first thing to consider when asking if the products are suitable for children. There is very little advice or official guidelines in the UK for the age at which it’s appropriate for children to start to drink caffeine, this tends to be down to the parent to decide. However, many children are very familiar with the natural levels of caffeine found in cacao from hot chocolate. Collagen is an important structural component of bones, connective tissue and skin required by the body during times of rapid growth and development. These products do also contain adaptogens which may not be suited to children of young ages.
Does Cacao + Collagen contain the recommended daily dose of collagen?
Our Cacao + Collagen contains 2g of hydrolysed collagen peptides, specifically designed at a lower dose so you can adjust your daily dose, by adding more True or Wild Collagen if you wish. True and Wild Collagen contains 100% hydrolysed collagen peptides and we recommend a daily intake of 5-10g of collagen for optimal benefits. You could add an additional 3-8g (~1 teaspoon) of True or Wild Collagen to your Cacao + Collagen. You could add additional products such as True MCT Oil to your Cacao + Collagen if you wish too. Alongside the collagen content, you may experience benefits from the additional ingredients in Cacao + Collagen including Beetroot, Cinnamon, Carob, Ashwaganda and Baobab.
Can I take this with other Ancient + Brave products?
Cacao + Collagen can be taken alongside other Ancient + Brave products containing Ashwagandha, such as our Cacao + Reishi and Coffee + Collagen. However, be mindful of your total Ashwagandha intake to avoid exceeding recommended doses. Ashwagandha provided per serving in our current products: Cacao + Reishi 200mg; Coffee + Collagen 500mg; Cacao + Collagen 200mg. We do not recommend exceeding 1000mg per day.
Is Cacao + Collagen safe to take during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We would suggest being mindful of our products containing botanicals like Ashwagandha, if you are monitoring your intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding. You should always speak to your doctor or midwife before introducing any new supplements or dietary changes during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Due to ethical constraints, studies in pregnant and breastfeeding individuals are limited, so we are unable to make specific recommendations. However, there are no known contraindications for Type I collagen peptides, and they are generally well tolerated. If in doubt, please consult your healthcare provider.
Does Cacao + Collagen contain any caffeine?
Cacao is a natural source of caffeine and our Cacao + Collagen contains 1620 mg/kg of caffeine. Although this is on the lower side, if you are caffeine sensitive it may not be the best suited product for you. However, as it contains 200mg of Ashwagandha per serving which is known to have a soothing effect.
When is the best time of day to enjoy Cacao + Collagen?
This beautiful blend can be enjoyed any time of your day. However, we believe it is the perfect addition to your rest ritual. Due to the calming benefits of ashwagandha, we recommend taking a mindful moment to enjoy a warming cup of Cacao + Collagen before bed, to help you drift off into a restful night sleep.
